Decide Your Budget and Format
Start by deciding how much you can invest and how much of that you can lock into one outlet. Everything else, from format to city, follows from this number.
Split your money into setup spend and a separate cash reserve. Then match it to a format. A small kiosk suits a compact, high-footfall spot and a lower budget. A larger cafe needs more space, more seating and more investment. Twing Cafe formats run from the Kiosk, which starts from ₹5 Lakhs, to larger cafe formats; see the franchise models for the current list.
Be honest about your time too. If you will run the outlet daily, any format works. If you cannot be there, ask about operating-support options such as the FOCO model.
Write down a number you will not cross, and a date by which you want to open. Both help you reject offers that do not fit, rather than being talked into a bigger format than you planned.
Shortlist Franchise Brands
Shortlist two or three brands whose menu, support and terms you can actually verify. A long list only slows you down.
Look at what each brand sells, who its customers are and whether the menu is simple enough to run consistently. Ask for the agreement draft early. Visit a working outlet at different times of day and watch the customers, not only the counter.
A healthy, high-protein menu is one way to stand out from a regular coffee-and-snacks cafe. You can read about the concept on our about page and see the offering on the menu page.
Speak to existing franchise owners if the brand has them, and ask what they wish they had known before signing. A single honest conversation can save months.
Choose the City and Location
The location decides more of your result than almost any other choice. A strong brand cannot fully fix a weak site.
Gujarat has several cities that suit a cafe, each with a different customer mix. Ahmedabad is the state's largest city, Surat is known for diamonds and textiles, Vadodara is a university and cultural city, and Rajkot is Saurashtra's main commercial city. Our Gujarat franchise page gives the overview, and Twing Cafe's expansion focus covers Ahmedabad, Vadodara, Surat, Rajkot, and wider Gujarat and Saurashtra.
Site checklist: visible frontage, steady walk-in traffic across the day, nearby colleges, offices or gyms, parking or easy access, and a rent you can carry in a slow month.
Spend a few days standing near the site, counting who walks past and when, before you commit to a lease.
Do not choose a city only because it is big. A smaller city with fewer competing cafes can give a new healthy concept more room to be noticed, while a large city offers more footfall and more competition. Both can work with the right format.
Review the Agreement
Read the franchise agreement fully before signing, and have your own advisor or lawyer read it too. It sets the terms for years.
Check the length of the agreement, renewal and exit terms, all recurring charges and what they are charged on, territory protection, what the brand must provide, and what happens if either side ends the arrangement. Make sure anything the franchisor said verbally is written into the document.
Compare any offer, including ours, on a like-for-like basis, as explained in our guide to cafe franchise costs.
Keep the lease and the franchise agreement in step. Many owners sign the lease first because the unit looks perfect, then find the brand has different requirements for layout or minimum area.
Fit-Out and Training
After the agreement, the work moves to building the outlet and preparing the team. Both should run on a schedule agreed with the franchisor.
Fit-out covers interiors, equipment, branding and signage. A franchisor that provides a standard layout and brand kit saves you design time and keeps the outlet looking like the rest of the network. Staff training covers recipes, equipment use, service standards and daily routines.
Ask for a written timeline and who is responsible for each step. Delays usually come from site handover and approvals, so start those early.
Once the outlet is ready, run a short soft-opening period. Test the menu, billing and service flow with a few days of limited hours, fix what goes wrong, then open fully.
Launch Marketing
Launch marketing should begin before the doors open, not after. A new cafe needs people to know it exists on day one.
- Set up the outlet on Google Maps and social profiles.
- Use the brand's creatives and menu photos for consistency.
- Invite nearby colleges, offices and gyms for the opening week.
- Collect real customer reviews politely at the counter.
Ask your franchisor which launch support is included and which you must arrange yourself.
Keep launch offers simple and honest. A clear offer that you can sustain beats a big discount you must withdraw in week two.
Common Mistakes
Most mistakes in cafe franchising come from rushing the first decisions. They are avoidable.
- Choosing on the lowest headline price without checking what it covers.
- Signing a lease before the franchise agreement is clear.
- Ignoring working capital and running short in the first weeks.
- Believing any promised profit or payback as a guarantee. Payback is an indicative target of about 6 months, not a guarantee; it depends on location, footfall, rent, operations and sales.
- Skipping a visit to a working outlet.
